The Prepositional phrases just like prepositions link words in a sentence. Prepositional phrases are composed of two or more words. The words can be: nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs or prepositions. We will discuss the most common prepositional phrases.

In this lesson we will study the following prepositional phrases: près de, quant à, quitte à, vis-à-vis de, à travers, à propos de.

près de

“près de” means “next to”, “toward”, “by”, “close” or “near”. It expresses both time and place. It is always followed with a noun, a noun phrase or a verb in the infinitive.
